EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy developed to help people recover from traumatic experiences and distressing memories. It works especially well for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, phobias, grief, and other issues rooted in past events. The core idea is that when overwhelming experiences aren’t fully processed, they can stay “stuck” in the nervous system and continue to trigger distress in the present.
In EMDR, clients are guided to recall parts of the traumatic memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation — usually through eye movements, tapping, or sounds. This process helps the brain reprocess the memory so that it no longer feels as vivid, distressing, or defining. Over time, clients often notice a reduction in emotional intensity and a shift in how they view themselves and the past. Sessions may also include preparation work, resource-building, and grounding techniques to support emotional safety throughout the process.
